Year 1 2025 - 2026

Welcome to our Year One Classpage 

Welcome back to the Summer Term. We have a very busy term ahead.

Our topic for this term is Kings, Queens and Castles and we will learn about this through our histoey, geography and English lessons. Our Maths lessons will focus on measure, shape and money. In Science, we are going to be learning about different animals, classification and animal diets. In art, we will be exploring the skill of painting. There is so much exciting learning to look forward to.

In June, the children will be taking part in the national Phonics Screening Check. We are practising for this already and it is wonderful to see the progress the class are making. Please do continue to hear the children read at home and practise their phonics. Please do google RWI Sounds and you will find many videos to watch which can support their learning.

Reading at home

Children will be sent home with a new reading book on a Monday and Friday. Please ensure that you are listening to your child read at home every day. It is essential for their progress that they are sharing their reading books at home. 

Children will also be bringing home their RWI book on a Thursday. This must be returned by Monday so they can receive their new book. 

Things to note:

Please keep an eye out for other dates throughout the year including cooking, reading cafes, stay and learn and assemblies. We hope to see as many of you there as possible as we do enjoy inviting in the community to our school.

We have an exciting trip booked to Mountfitchet Castle on Thursday 25th June. We will have the opportunity to explore the castle and make links to our class learning. It will be a wonderful visit and opportunity for the class.

PE is on Wednesday so please ensure that your child wears their PE kit on this day.

Children have begun their swimming lessons and these will continue for the next 5 weeks. It was wonderful to see how brave and excited they all were for their first lesson.
