Year 1 2024 - 2025
Miss Allen
Year 1 Teacher
Welcome back to our Summer term in Year 1.
We hope everyone had a restful Easter holiday. The children have settled back into the routine of school well and are excited about learning their new topics.
As the weather hopefully improves, please ensure you send your child in with a water bottle, hat and with suncream applied. We endeavour to have as much time outside as possible when we can but need to ensure the children are safe.
We are looking forward to learning about London, including the Great fire of London and the history behind Bonfire Night. We will also explore different stories and texts linked to this topic in our English lessons. Our maths for this term will be to explore money and time and to consolidate our previous topics ready for Year 2.
We are thrilled to share our ballet learning based on the Royal Opera House's performance of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland performance was a huge success. The children perfomed wonderfully and made us all very proud. We hope to be able to share this performance with you all soon. Thank you all again for your support with this project.
We are all extremely excited to begin swimming this half term. Please ensure they bring their swimming costumes, towels and a swimming hat. Goggles are optional. We look forward to sharing the children's progress with you.
Reading at home
Children will be sent home with a new reading book on a Monday and Friday. Please ensure that you are listening to your child read at home every day. It is essential for their progress that they are sharing their reading books at home.
Children will also be bringing home their RWI book on a Thursday. This must be returned by Monday so they can receive their new book. If children's green reading records are not signed, then their reading books will not be changed. Please ensure that you sign the record every time your child reads to you.
Homework and spellings
Children will continue to receive their fortnightly homework. This will be issued on a Friday and linked to our topics. Children will have two weeks to complete the homework task.
Children will also be sent home with spellings each week to learn. These need to be practised for 5-10 minutes each day and will continue to support the children with their writing.
PE is on a Wednesday so please ensure children are sent in appropriate clothing and footwear.
When there is cooking, please label containers sent in from home with your child’s name to avoid any confusion.
If you have any concerns or questions please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.
We look forward to another successful term of learning and fun.
Mrs Subedi and Miss Newton.
