Year 1 2026 - 2027

Welcome back to Autumn Term here at Redcastle

Myself and Mrs Boone hope everybody had a restful summer holiday and are looking forward to the year ahead! 

Reading at home

Children will be sent home with a new reading book on a Monday and Friday. Please ensure that you are listening to your child read at home every day. It is essential for their progress that they are sharing their reading books at home and practicing their sounds. 

Children will also be bringing home their Read Write Inc book on a Thursday which they wil have focused on that week for Phonics, please read this with them and give them the opportunity to read it to you. This must be returned by the following Monday

Things to note:

Please keep an eye out for other dates throughout the year including cooking, reading cafes, stay and learn and class assemblies. We hope to see as many of you there as possible as we do enjoy inviting our community into our school.

This year Year 1 will be swimming for the whole of the Autumn term up to Christmas, every Friday. Please make sure you are sending in a bag packed with a towel and their swimsuit/shorts (or have them wear it under their uniform ready) and any practice at home getting changed independently wil be a massive help on these days :)

PE has also changed this year, with their PE lesson now split over two days. Year 1 are on Tuesday and Wednesday so please ensure that your child wears their PE kit to school on these days.
