Year 4 Girls'  County Final Football Tournament

Year 4 Football.jpeg

On Friday 6 March 2026, the Year 3–4 girls football team represented Redcastle at the County Final tournament held at Goals in Norwich. The team had already did brilliantly to reach this stage, having previously won their qualifying heat against ten other local schools.

At the finals, Redcastle were competing against the sixteen best teams from across the county. The girls showed great determination and teamwork throughout the group stage, finishing unbeaten with two draws and one win, which saw them progress to the knockout rounds.

In the semi-final the girls played an exciting and closely contested match, finishing 2–2 after a strong team performance. They continued to show resilience and character throughout the next match, which again ended 2–2 at full time. Unfortunately, the game was decided by penalties and Redcastle narrowly missed out.

Overall, the girls finished an impressive fourth in the whole county. With around 100 schools taking part in the competition from the start, this was a fantastic achievement.

The team were also recognised for the way they represented the school throughout the day. Redcastle were voted the school with the best spirit and sportsmanship, an award decided by votes from all the other schools and players taking part. This was a wonderful honour and a reflection of the girls’ positive attitude and teamwork.

Well done to all the girls for a fantastic effort and a brilliant day of football. The eventual winners of the tournament were the team Redcastle drew with before the penalty shootout, showing just how close the competition was. On another day, the result could easily have gone our way.
