Year 6 Summer Term 1
Date: 22nd May 2026 @ 2:42pm
What an exciting few weeks it has been in Year 6. We are incredibly proud of our pupils for completing their SATs assessments with such maturity, resilience and determination. They approached each test with focus and positivity, and we could not be prouder of them.
With SATs now behind us, we have launched our brand‑new project: Theme Park! The children are already buzzing with ideas, from thrilling rollercoasters to imaginative branding and budgeting. This project will run throughout the term and will give pupils the chance to apply their maths, writing, design and teamwork skills in a creative and purposeful way.
Alongside our project work, we are continuing our daily reading and writing sessions to keep skills sharp and ensure pupils are fully prepared for secondary school.
📚 What We’ve Been Learning
🌍 History & Geography – Shackleton and Antarctica
We have been exploring the incredible story of Ernest Shackleton and his expedition to Antarctica. Pupils have been fascinated by the challenges he faced and the unique features of the Antarctic environment. This learning will continue into Summer Term 2 as we deepen our understanding of exploration, survival and geography.
🧠 R.E. – Humanism
In R.E., Year 6 have been studying Humanism, thinking about what Humanists believe, how they make decisions, and how their values shape their lives. This thoughtful and reflective work will also continue next half‑term.
🔬 Science – Evolution and Inheritance
Our science topic has focused on evolution and inheritance, including how animals adapt to their environments and how traits are passed on. Pupils have shown great curiosity and will continue this scientific journey after half‑term.
